The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando Hosts Roundtable Discussion with Governor of Puerto Rico Ricardo Rosselló on the Island’s Recovery Efforts and Economic Development Opportunities between Central Florida and Puerto Rico
The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) hosted a roundtable discussion today at the National Entrepreneur Center with Governor Ricardo Rosselló. The Governor of Puerto Rico spoke to Central Florida leaders, business owners, members of the HCCMO board and Trustees; highlighting that, “this is a historical moment for the business and investment community to expand to the island, as the rebuilding continues.” He added that there will be over $100 billion in funding available over the next 10 years to invest and rebuild, “stronger, better, smarter.” The governor’s vision is to make Puerto Rico one of the jurisdictions with the highest return on investment; a hub for innovation, and a centralized destination for US companies to connect with Latin America.
"The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has been working directly with the government of Puerto Rico for the past 6 months, developing strategies and partnerships. In June of 2018, HCCMO together with Prospera traveled to the island to present a workshop for more than 300 business owners. That event covered economic development, financial, legal and demographic analysis to be considered before expanding to Central Florida,” said Gaby Ortigoni, President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando.
“Today’s conversation reiterated our Chamber’s commitment to connect Central Florida’s business community with the unique commercial opportunities that have arisen as Puerto Rico rebuilds. “As the leading voice of the Hispanic business community, it is important for HCCMO to be a catalyst for opportunities that can benefit our economy,” added Ortigoni.
During today’s meeting, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando also announced a summit on November 2nd, which will highlight the economic impact of the Puerto Rican exodus to Florida before and after hurricane María. HCCMO extended an invitation to Governor Rosselló to participate in the event and present the most recent facts on the island’s business potential and economic forecast.
