50 Campaigns Participated in Event, Straw Poll Results Available

ORLANDO, Fla. (July 27, 2018) - Aiming to increase Hispanic voter participation in the electoral process and connect Hispanics to the candidates that want their vote, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando (HCCMO) hosted its 2018 Political Hob Nob at the Orlando Fashion Square on Thursday, July 26.

A total of 50 federal, state, and local campaigns participated in the event, highlighting the increasing importance of the Hispanic vote both locally and beyond. The event was open to the public and had nearly 400 attendees. Politicians and their representatives interacted one-on-one with voters, also sharing their individual platforms during the traditional, “Parade of Candidates.”

"Now more than ever, candidates need to connect with Hispanic voters, with more than 415,000 registered to vote in Central Florida in the upcoming election,” said HCCMO President Gaby Ortigoni. “Hispanics in the I-4 corridor are expected to be the deciding factor in many races, and those votes will shape the future policy of this region and the state. The Hispanic Chamber is proud to take a lead role in providing the community and the candidates a platform to engage and dialogue about the issues that affect all of us."

Attendees casted their votes in support of their preferred candidates and issues in the straw poll conducted by the office the Orange County Supervisor of Elections, Bill Cowles. Although the results of the straw poll are not scientific, they reflect the voting tendencies of the Hispanic business community present at the event.
