Orlando, June 5th, 2017 – Paul Curran, vice president and general manager of WFTV and WRDQ TV-27 announced TV-27 will broadcast the 60th annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade, live from New York City on Sunday, June 11th at 12:00 p.m.
“One of the truly great aspects of Central Florida is its cultural diversity. Nowhere is that more pronounced than in our Hispanic community. Central Florida is now home to the largest Puerto Rican population in the United States and Orlando will be a top 10 Hispanic market by 2018,” said Curran. “We are delighted to showcase the largest Puerto Rican Day Parade in the world on TV-27 this Sunday. The history and pageantry of this event will resonate with all residents of Central Florida.”
This year’s parade pays special tribute to prominent figures and recognizes 100 years of U.S. Citizenship for Puerto Ricans during this milestone year. Under the theme, “Un Pueblo, Muchas Voces” (One Nation, Many Voices), the 2017 parade and associated events will advance the parade’s mission of promoting culture, art and education in the Puerto Rican community, both on the island and the mainland U.S.
“In this monumental year, we are showcasing our collective achievement and the legacy we have built by working in solidarity, and we will discuss key challenges that Puerto Rico is facing to help inform and engage our community. We also honor legendary figures and the next generation of stars that are already accomplished in their own right,” said Lorraine Cortés-Vázquez, parade chairperson.
Gilberto Santa Rosa, GRAMMY® Award-winning singer, actor and producer will serve as Grand Marshal and he will be joined by Parade Queen, Lana Parilla, the talented actress from TV and film, who plays the role of the Evil Queen/Regina Mills in the ABC fantasy drama series Once Upon a Time.
Lifetime Achievement dedications will go to Walter Mercado, an iconic TV actor and personality, Bobby Cruz, salsa singer from Hormigueros, and Julio Monge, choreographer, actor and director. For more information go to www.nprdpinc.org.
