National Puerto Rican Day Parade 2016

Orlando, June 7th, 2016 – Paul Curran, vice president and general manager of WFTV and WRDQ TV-27 announced TV-27 will broadcast the 59th annual National Puerto Rican Day Parade, live from New York City on Sunday, June 12th at 12:00 p.m.

“One of the truly great aspects of Central Florida is its cultural diversity. Nowhere is that more pronounced than in our Hispanic community. Central Florida is now home to the largest Puerto Rican population in the United States and Orlando will be a top 10 Hispanic market by 2018,” said Curran. “We are delighted to showcase the largest Puerto Rican Day Parade in the world on TV-27 this Sunday. The history and pageantry of this event will resonate with all residents of Central Florida.”
This year’s parade will recognize Family Unity, Marriage Equality and LGBT rights; Science, Engineering and Aerospace; and Voter Education and Registration.
The 2016 state dedication will go to Florida, the state with the fastest-growing population of Puerto Ricans outside their native island.
“This year, in face of Puerto Rico’s humanitarian and fiscal crisis, and the upcoming national elections, we wanted to recognize the voices, talent and good contributions of Puerto Ricans to all aspects of life. We also seek to emphasize unity, as we work together to identify solutions to the crisis, and encourage voter registration and awareness,” said Cortés-Vázquez, parade chairperson.
Latin Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Ednita Nazario will serve as Grand Marshal and she will be joined by Parade King, NBA All Star and philanthropist Carmelo Anthony.
Lifetime Achievement dedications will go to retired baseball player Candy Maldonado and Salsa music legend Andy Montanez. For more information go to
