The Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando (HHSFMO), a 501(C)(3) organization, announced today the recipients of the 2013 Hispanic Heritage Scholarship during an event held at the National Entrepreneur Center in Orlando. The winners of the 2013 Scholarship were on hand as well as many of the parents of students, members of the HHSFMO Board of Directors, college representatives and event sponsors. The recipients will be honored during the 14th Annual Scholarship Awards Ceremony on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

The HHSFMO Scholarship funds will be distributed to 14 Central Florida students who will each receive a $5,000 scholarship.  A volunteer committee selected students based on their grade point average, an essay and financial need.

Through a partnership with the Hispanic Bar Association of Orange County, and for the fifth consecutive year, HHSFMO will also provide an additional scholarship to a law student currently enrolled at Barry University’s School of Law. In addition, this year the organization has also partnered with the Education Foundation of Osceola and the Kissimmee/Osceola Hispanic Business Council to present two more scholarships to students in Osceola. And finally, Casa de Mexico has also formed a partnership with HHSFMO to provide one additional scholarship.

The Hispanic Heritage Scholarship Fund of Metro Orlando has become the largest non-profit organization in Central Florida dedicated to providing scholarships for Hispanic students pursuing a college or university degree.  With this year’s scholarship, the fund will have awarded more than $800,000 to help 209 exceptional students attending local colleges and universities..

“Our community drives this program; it supports it, funds it and ultimately benefits from it as the students who receive the award join the Central Florida workforce as well-trained individuals. Our community recognizes the value of investing in the academic and professional dreams of talented Hispanic students in Central Florida,” said Julio F. Suárez, Board Chairman for HHSFMO.

This year’s sponsors include: Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, AT&T, Orlando Health, Darden Restaurants, Century Link, Bright House Networks, Florida Blue, OUC-The Reliable One, Rosen Hotels, Universal Parks & Resorts, Sea World, Melendez & Carmona PL, SunTrust, and Wells Fargo, among many others.
